The evolution of "YOU"

Diets, weight loss, protocols, therapies... They all involve one thing, YOU. These do not exist unless you exist, unless you are present to do them. Deprivation, change, misery, discomfort, effort, these are the words that contribute to our failure when doing something new. We need so desperately to have something to hold on to so these all encompassing words don't swallow us up whole. I see it everyday, I see it derail, choke, invoke the type of fear and aggression that a practitioner hopes to never see. I hear the same phrase over and over again.. "It's too hard" "I'm too busy" "When do I get to eat REAL food?" "You're a joy killer" "You don't understand how I feel" My **** is more important". As a practitioner all I hear is fear, fear of being different around the people you love, fear of telling your spouse that certain foods are not acceptable in the house, fear of your FEEDER friends and family, fear of making your self and health a priority, and most important the fear of being judged...

If any of this was easy it wouldn't exist, plain and simple! As much as I want to call bullshit, I provoke my compassionate side and look back to a time where I was eating dinner with my husband who was having Mac n Cheese for dinner and I was crying into my plate audibly and cursing how "Unfair" it was. Nothing about it was unfair, no one was taking anything away from me, it was "I" who decided to make a change, to go grain free and dairy free for my health and well being. This too shall pass my mother always told me and as much as I want to shove those words up someone's ass, they're true. Life moves forward, every day ends.

So what's more important to you? Living in world where you blame everything else for why you aren't reaching your goals, or taking responsibility and getting your shit together? I'm not your judge, your jury, your executioner... That's up to you. You are the only one who truly notices or cares what you do in this life. If you have someone who likes to remind you of your insecurities then stop fueling their fire. I had a client who always talked about her weight with everyone she was close to so that is how everyone would start a conversation with her. The only way to not bring attention to those issues is to ignore them, don't address them with the general public. Keep it to yourself. If you disconnect socially with the issue, then only you will be the one to focus on your goals. It is the very moment you involve someone else that they have the ability to derail everything you have been working for. For example "Hey mom, do these jeans make me look fat?" "Well dear why yes they do..." Now you're traumatized and subconsciously your mother knows to address your weight consistently, and at the most inappropriate times. Now she will start to notice her own insecurities and take them out on you. See where I'm going with this?

In order to make changes in life and to avoid negative reactions is to avoid negative reactions. Don't give any one human on the planet control over how you feel about yourself. The truth of the matter is that you are an amazingly wonderful human being and no one owns you. You are the only true owner of your feelings and reactions.

So you want to know the secret to achieving your goals? Believe in the change, believe that it will be worth it, no matter how bad it hurts emotionally. Because Like I said, If it was easy it wouldn't exist, we'd all be perfectly healthy. Love yourself and push through all the road blocks stopping you from being where you want to be and stop making EXCUSES! They are only a crutch to help you talk yourself out of what you originally intended to do. EVOLVE AND LOVE YOURSELF!

Constipation an epidemic, you think you're regular?! The negative effects of irregularity...

Talking about poop is necessary when concerning your health, as gross as it may seem. Going every few days or once a week is a sign of a diseased state. If the body isn't able to evacuate daily that should be your first warning sign that something is a miss. If its the opposite and you're movements are very frequent, like three to four times daily, change your diet immediately!

Bowel movements are one of the body's most important ways to regulate health. Have you heard that "the brain lives in the gut?"  This is absolutely true! When everything is not alright it can affect your entire life. Serotonin is the chemical produced in the gut lining. This chemical is responsible for not only happiness but response to stress, cognitive productivity, even sex drive. If your sexual performance isn't what it used to be, check your gut health!

Sad truth is, if you are irregular most of your life you will most likely die of a cardiovascular related disease like heart attack, stroke, or complete failure of the systems. Heart attacks are the number one killer of women. Think about it!

So, what's normal? How do you remedy this issue? Good question! You should be having two well formed, easy to pass bowel movements, daily. There should be no clean up needed. One should be first thing in the morning and the second at some point late afternoon. Simple enough right? I know it seems easier said than done but here are a few points of dysfunction to consider and easy remedies:

Hydration: every human on the planet must drink at least half their  weight in ounces daily never exceeding 1 gallon.

Fiber: lunch and dinner should consist of either 8oz raw or 4oz cooked vegetables on top of your protein and starch/fruit. People with inflamed bowel (diarrhea) should never eat raw vegetables.

Proper supplementation: if you have no gallbladder or have trouble digesting healthy fats you should consider bile salts. If you have gas or bloating after meals you should consider HCL. Did you know most Americans have an active yeast infection in their intestine called Candida?  You might want to check for that and eradicate it :)

Food sensitivities: unless you see a naturopath your regular doctor won't be concerned with testing you for food allergies so try an elimination diet. This trick works every time. Once you slowly introduce allergens your body will tell you it's no bueno!

Exercise: stimulating the cardiovascular system helps the entire body to flow freely. Daily 30 min exercises can help everything!

Mineral deficiency: if you are a mother or an athlete it is most likely that you have a bit of a mineral deficiency. Consider trying a liquid mineral complex or a magnesium powder. Magnesium is responsible for helping the muscles relax and contract.

Emotions: stress or anxiety can alter our gut health. Unless we breath, relax, or focus on our happiness our stomach will mock exactly how we are feeling. Be zen!

Diet: most Americans eat horribly. We call it the SAD diet. The standard American diet consists of too many processed foods. Try eating cleaner, it can move mountains ;)

Gut health is to me is a primary concern. When my digestion is good, all is right with the world, there are no problems. Being good to your body starts with what you put in it and that directly affects what is to come from that. If you want to feel good, be happy, and live a long vital life, protect your digestive system and take action into your own hands.

I hope this sheds some light on a very serious issue! Poop is important because it dictates our very existence!!

Be well!

Balancing Hormones in 3 easy steps

Every woman on the planet is different in terms of genetic makeup/predisposition, allergies/sensitivities, and most of all life structure. Some women are so lucky that they have been given the proper tools needed in order to maintain healthy hormone production. For the rest of us it doesn't come that easy, until now. In three easy steps to balance your hormones you will learn how to manage them in your busy day to day and the benefits for a long healthy life.

Step #1: Balance

Women with heavy/irregular periods or just women who hate periods and have decided to avoid them are completely out of balance (unless you have a rare disease like hemophilia or von willebrands disease). Menstruation should always be a welcomed gift. I know this sounds ridiculous, but it's true. When a woman sheds her uterine lining the body sets off a "all clear signal" of non-fetal attachment and a complete detoxification process. When we bleed we detox, we get rid of any cells that can become harmful or toxic to the body. So making a healthy period should be every women's primary focus.

Making your period your focus and "Balancing" starts by having a calendar. I like "Pink Pad" its an app that tracks my crimson sister and even lets me add emoji's to talk about how shitty my day might be.

Once you track you know what to expect, and that my girlfriends is where the magic happens. When you know what to expect then you can become a full on Doomsday prepper. Prepping will allow you to avoid the bloody murder Carrie like alter ego called PMS. Yes that's right you can actually avoid PMS all together. How you ask? With these few ingredients:

Raw cacao powder

Coconut butter

100% Grass fed beef

Holy Basil

Lemon Balm

Brazil Nuts

Raw un-peeled carrots

These prepping materials are packed full of mineral rich, adrenal supporting,  alkalizing, and excess estrogen removing nutrients. Those words may not mean anything to you but the body needs to rebuild, needs to refuel. These few ingredients will give everything a "detoxing" woman needs.

Step #2: Decrease inflammation

Inflammation is a tricky business. It can rear its ugly head in so many forms. I like to use the "Snowball" analogy. Imagine a rock on a snowy mountain top, this is an allergy or sensitivity. The rock then catapults as the body is inundated with inflammation. As the rock picks up momentum it starts to get bigger and bigger. This mass represents the rising heat of inflammation in the body. As the snowball generates into this weapon of mass destruction is approaches a village below thus eliminating anything that gets in its way. This destruction translates as a diseased state in the body like, painful periods, fibromyalgia, constipation, plantar fasciitis, yadda yadda yadda, the list goes on.

The ultimate way to decreasing inflammation is to eliminate natural irritants. This applies to everyone.

Pasteurized Dairy

Night Shades (tomato, eggplant, potato, pepper)

Processed sugar

Step #3: Eat Clean

If you think you have a pretty clear idea of what eating clean is, let's take it a step further. Clean to me is not just home made foods with minimal ingredients. Clean to me is, "What type of environment did my food grow in?" "Is the animal I am eating grass-fed/pasture raised or has it been confined and grain fed?." These are truly elemental questions to ask yourself because why the heck would you want to eat an animal that has diabetes? You are already working so hard to eat healthy, why make it that much harder?

Organic and GMO-Free are not gimicks, they are what true natural foods are. This isn't some hokey, hardcore, rich girl only diet. Re-prioritize your life now and spend a few more bucks on your food so you don't spend thousands on your cancer treatments later. Yeah I said it, Cancer.

Facts about hormones:

Did you know that estrogen dominance is the path to chemotherapy and radiation?! That's right people, Cancer!! If you don't know what estrogen dominance is, it's a hormonal imbalance in the body. If you are overweight you definitely have a hormonal imbalance. If your period is irregular you absolutely have a hormonal imbalance. If you have difficulty sleeping you have a hormonal imbalance. See where I'm going with this. Your poor body and all of that stress. What I am saying here ladies is that every one wants to be so damn polite that no ones really says, "Hey, that problem you have, it's not normal!" Start paying attention to your body and don't take no for an answer, and honestly start questioning your Doctor. Taking a pill for everything is freaking ridiculous, and making everyone sicker. Get your hormones tested, and let's start balancing them!
