If You Can’t Eat It, Don’t Bother!

Think about this with me for a moment. If you can’t eat it, why would you put it on your body? As a domesticated people we have recently become so addicted to toxic beauty products full of chemicals. This isn’t some hippie manifesto to say to you, “Screw the Patriarchy, the man is trying to kill us!” Even though I truly believe that- the truth here is that your skin is your largest and most absorbent organ. Everything you put in, on, or around you will find a way into your body. Think about that for a second- everything you have ever put on your skin absorbs into your body. It is no longer a wonder of why cancer is at an all-time high in these United States.

This isn’t a way to shame anyone out of the products they are currently using, it is merely an educational opportunity to enlighten the consumer-you- to a new possibility, nontoxic beauty!

Let us start with the buzz term we have all heard making its rounds recently, “Endocrine Disruptor.”

An Endocrine Disruptor is best defined by The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences as such “Endocrine disruptors are chemicals that may interfere with the body’s endocrine system and produce adverse developmental, reproductive, neurological, and immune effects in both humans and wildlife. A wide range of substances, both natural and man-made, are thought to cause endocrine disruption, including pharmaceuticals, dioxin and dioxin-like compounds, polychlorinated biphenyls, DDT and other pesticides, and plasticizers such as bisphenol A. Endocrine disruptors may be found in many everyday products– including plastic bottles, metal food cans, detergents, flame retardants, food, toys, cosmetics, and pesticides. The NIEHS supports studies to determine whether exposure to endocrine disruptors may result in human health effects including lowered fertility and an increased incidence of endometriosis and some cancers. Research shows that endocrine disruptors may pose the greatest risk during prenatal and early postnatal development when organ and neural systems are forming.”

Just reading that definition makes my skin crawl- literally.

So truly ponder with me for a moment, what products are you currently using daily on your body that you would consider toxic? If you wouldn’t eat it, then it is actually considered toxic, so…..

Would you eat your face wash? Lotion? Perfume? Shampoo? Conditioner? Make Up?

For most of you the answer is a big NO.

SO how do we change?

Some non-toxic gurus out there love suggesting apps like Think Dirty, but I’m not interested in another unnatural-technological-innate intelligence killing-program. Get back to basics everyone, you don’t need an app to tell you if you can or can’t eat something right? If you do, that is a whole other level of education that we can get into another time, but for now let’s assume most of you know what is toxic to eat and to not.

If your body products come in a GLASS bottle- yes glass- and says: organic, non-gmo, unprocessed, unfiltered, raw or wild harvested/crafted it most likely is safe.

Just ask yourself “Would I eat this if I had to.”

It’s a simple question, if the answer is no, then maybe it’s time to rethink your whole body care routine.

As for the GLASS bottle, plastic is another HUGE Endocrine Disruptor so if anything you use comes in plastic, there is another level of not only toxicity happening, but you are also contributing to the insane waste issue we have here in our country and on our planet.

One person makes a huge difference! According to Eco Watch “The average American throws away approximately 185 pounds of plastic per year.”

Like I said this information isn’t new and I’m not the first to write about it. The Huffington Post released an article in 2016 about how “The average woman puts 515 synthetic chemicals on her body every single day without even knowing.” It even goes into detail on how Talc is a direct contributor to ovarian cancer. This is a life threatening issue. If you have any of the following it’s time to think about detoxing your body care routine and even your household.

Auto Immunity

Difficulty Losing Weight

Estrogen Dominance

Thyroid Conditions

This list goes on……

So are we in agreement now that if you can’t eat it, it doesn’t belong anywhere near you?!


Some folks out there, like to still push the limit of what is considered to be Non-Toxic or "Natural", the label of Organic can even be fudged a little, so be very cautious of what ingredients they are using. Don't hesitate to contact the manufacturer for further questions.
