Is Your Bra Killing You?

One of my best girlfriends and I were having our regular Friday morning coffee date and somehow started talking about bras. She went into how she recently bought a bra at Victoria Secret and when she went to hand wash it she nearly vomited from the off gassing of the toxic chemicals they use to make it. Sadly this is our reality in America. We are cursed with a society that promotes the subliminal programming of only one way to make or buy a bra- and add that padding and under wires are necessary to achieve optimal “sexiness”.  Ugh…

Our conversation quickly went into our own little conspiracy theory of how the “Bra Monopoly” is linked to the “Cancer Industry.” We may have strayed a bit off topic, but we weren’t completely wrong. The truth here is that 100% of the synthetic bras you purchase in a conventional store are made with harmful and toxic materials that contribute to body toxicity. We also cannot deny the sheer fact that breast cancer is at an all-time high in our nation, and was not so before we started to over use toxic chemicals in our clothing. Without getting too technical you can find countless articles on the internet about where these materials come from, it’s not a secret. https://www.brasandbreastcancer.org/

But let’s talk a bit more about how this affects your breasts directly…. We are well aware at this point that everything that sits on the skin is absorbed within 15 min right?! Right! So imagine that you are putting a Polyurethane padded bra covered in petroleum, dyes, and solvents directly on your mammary lymph tissue. What do you imagine is going to happen if you do that over and over and over again for your entire life? Exactly, it is going to directly toxify your breast tissue and contribute to endocrine disruption, increase inflammatory response, and retard the healthy tissue and cells in the breast.

Sadly the bad news here folks is that the underwear industry gives zero fucks about your breast health and are literally charging you thousands of dollars over a lifetime to negatively contribute to your health.

So what can we do about it? Well first, we can stop supporting any company that doesn’t use “non-toxic” or “Organic” materials. We can also stop using under wire and super tight sports bras! No, your boobs don’t depend on that support; there are plenty of other bras that support you just as well and won’t constrict tissue and lymph flow.

Here are some amazing companies that actually care about you and the environment: (not affiliate links)

Okay so now you have your nontoxic bra, but what about detoxing your boobies and making sure they are healthy long term?

Have you heard of moving your mammary lymph tissue with rebounding or braless workouts? What about breast massage oil and clay or castor oil detoxing? No? Well let me explain some of the benefits first and then I’ll get a little deeper…

Rebounding is one of the only ways the lymph tissue in the body can drain properly; it stimulates the tissue and facilitates detoxification in all major lymph areas like breast tissue. If we do not stimulate the tissue it cannot detox leaving the mammary tissue vulnerable to toxin build up; vulnerable to disease and mast cell growth.

You can read all about why rebounding is important and how to do it properly here: https://www.cancertutor.com/rebounding/

Some of you have seen me do my #bralesswarriorchallenge in the past to encourage women to go braless and workout braless as a means to advocate safe and healthful futures for breasts everywhere.

Working out and doing full cardio or weightlifting braless is far more effective in stimulating the lymph drainage as well as activating the muscle beneath the breast to elevate the mammary tissue to prevent sagging long term. Boobs in a bra get sick and lazy, just like if you were carried in a sling your entire life. Boobs need to be just as active and need to sweat out toxins like the rest of the body.

Remember that the armpit is the gateway to the mammary tissue so anything you put in your armpit is going to greatly contribute to your breast health or lack thereof. You MUST detox your armpits by choosing chemical free deodorants, soaps, and perfumes.

Here is a great link to an armpit detox: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/319624.php

And don’t get me started on “Breast Implant Illness”….. If you have implants and inexplicable inflammatory conditions, it might be your implants….. Sorry :/ Foreign objects are not meant to live inside the body, regardless of rejection, your body still doesn’t know what to do with them and will exacerbate inflammatory response and auto immunity.

Okay I think that’s enough information for you for now about breast health. Just remember to be conscious of everything that goes IN and ON your body. Monsanto didn’t just lose a lawsuit of $289 million dollars for nothing. Toxins are deadly- we all need to be more aware and not hide under the covers, ignorance is not bliss, it’s reckless

World's Best Paleo Chicken Liver Pâté

pate.JPG

Alright everyone, here is the recipe you have so desperately been asking for! I created this recipe years ago and have only taken it to events before one of my students Em decided to structure it and put it on her blog. I don't use onion or acv on my recipe because I like the liver to absorb the stronger flavors in the ingredients below.

I have been eating liver since I was an infant and it was a regular staple in our house and still is to this very day!

Possibly one of the reasons why I have such healthy menstrual cycles!

When you eat liver you absorb all of the beneficial nutrients it has to offer. Women with low iron and B vitamin levels can especially benefit from the regular consumption of liver. I love making it into a pate because its easy to eat at any time!

Liver is a tride and true medicinal food for liver, blood, and energy support!

If you are not a fan of liver, you will LOVE this recipe, I am not kidding you, once you pop you seriously cannot stop!

Enjoy!

Prep Time 5 minutes

Cook Time 25 minutes

Total Time 30 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1/2 pound chicken liver , raw, organic, and pasture-raised
  • 6 large shallot cloves , peeled and chopped
  • 6 large garlic cloves , peeled and chopped
  • 1 cup pasture raised rendered duck fat
  • 1/4 cup Braggs coconut aminos
  • 1/4 tsp sea salt

Instructions

  1. Place raw and thawed chicken livers in a strainer in the sink, rinse gently and thoroughly with cold water until all excess blood and viscera are gone.

  2. Place a large skillet on the stove over medium-low heat. Add in the duck fat and heat until melted. Once melted, add in the shallots, and garlic. Stirring gently, sweat the alliums until they're just translucent, about 5-8 minutes.

  3. After that, turn the burner to medium-low and add the liver, coconut aminos and salt. Cook gently, stirring periodically and flipping the livers with a spatula so both sides brown evenly, another 5-8 minutes. Once livers are browned**, take the pan off the heat.

  4. Cool the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer the mixture into a vitamix blender or food processor. Blend until the pâté is smooth like mousse. Transfer the pâté into a glass container and let it sit in the fridge overnight, allowing the flavors to develop.

Recipe Notes

* Liver is a food that can be consumed undercooked, so lightly browned on all sides with the center still red is best, make sure not to overcook your livers, it will change the flavor of the pate.

  • Sourcing — Make sure to find a good source for your livers and duck fat, if you are using food medicinally food sourcing and quality are vital!

  • This food is best enjoyed with either fresh raw vegetables, your favorite grain free cracker or on your favorite loaf of gluten free sourdough bread! Yum! I love to add cucumber to the top! But the beauty of being a Kitchen Witch is that you do you and enjoy your medicinal delights however you see fit!

If You Can’t Eat It, Don’t Bother!

IMG_3468.jpg

This is a picture of me with my Heart Grown Wild “Honey of Venus” mask on. It smells and tastes like candy and is amazing medicine for my skin. I’ll be writing about my skin care products in an upcoming blog, but for now-

Think about this with me for a moment. If you can’t eat it, why would you put it on your body? As a domesticated people we have recently become so addicted to toxic beauty products full of chemicals. This isn’t some hippie manifesto to say to you, “Screw the Patriarchy, the man is trying to kill us!” Even though I truly believe that- the truth here is that your skin is your largest and most absorbent organ. Everything you put in, on, or around you will find a way into your body. Think about that for a second- everything you have ever put on your skin absorbs into your body. It is no longer a wonder of why cancer is at an all-time high in these United States.

This isn’t a way to shame anyone out of the products they are currently using, it is merely an educational opportunity to enlighten the consumer-you- to a new possibility, nontoxic beauty!

Let us start with the buzz term we have all heard making its rounds recently, “Endocrine Disruptor.”

An Endocrine Disruptor is best defined by The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences as such “Endocrine disruptors are chemicals that may interfere with the body’s endocrine system and produce adverse developmental, reproductive, neurological, and immune effects in both humans and wildlife. A wide range of substances, both natural and man-made, are thought to cause endocrine disruption, including pharmaceuticals, dioxin and dioxin-like compounds, polychlorinated biphenyls, DDT and other pesticides, and plasticizers such as bisphenol A. Endocrine disruptors may be found in many everyday products– including plastic bottles, metal food cans, detergents, flame retardants, food, toys, cosmetics, and pesticides. The NIEHS supports studies to determine whether exposure to endocrine disruptors may result in human health effects including lowered fertility and an increased incidence of endometriosis and some cancers. Research shows that endocrine disruptors may pose the greatest risk during prenatal and early postnatal development when organ and neural systems are forming.”

Just reading that definition makes my skin crawl- literally.

So truly ponder with me for a moment, what products are you currently using daily on your body that you would consider toxic? If you wouldn’t eat it, then it is actually considered toxic, so…..

Would you eat your face wash? Lotion? Perfume? Shampoo? Conditioner? Make Up?

For most of you the answer is a big NO.

SO how do we change?

Some non-toxic gurus out there love suggesting apps like Think Dirty, but I’m not interested in another unnatural-technological-innate intelligence killing-program. Get back to basics everyone, you don’t need an app to tell you if you can or can’t eat something right? If you do, that is a whole other level of education that we can get into another time, but for now let’s assume most of you know what is toxic to eat and to not.

If your body products come in a GLASS bottle- yes glass- and says: organic, non-gmo, unprocessed, unfiltered, raw or wild harvested/crafted it most likely is safe.

Just ask yourself “Would I eat this if I had to.”

It’s a simple question, if the answer is no, then maybe it’s time to rethink your whole body care routine.

As for the GLASS bottle, plastic is another HUGE Endocrine Disruptor so if anything you use comes in plastic, there is another level of not only toxicity happening, but you are also contributing to the insane waste issue we have here in our country and on our planet.

One person makes a huge difference! According to Eco Watch “The average American throws away approximately 185 pounds of plastic per year.”

Like I said this information isn’t new and I’m not the first to write about it. The Huffington Post released an article in 2016 about how “The average woman puts 515 synthetic chemicals on her body every single day without even knowing.” It even goes into detail on how Talc is a direct contributor to ovarian cancer. This is a life threatening issue. If you have any of the following it’s time to think about detoxing your body care routine and even your household.

Sleep issues

Chronic Illness

Auto Immunity

Difficulty Losing Weight

Estrogen Dominance

Thyroid Conditions

Adrenal Fatigue

Chronic Pain

Chronic Fatigue

Tumor or Chronic Cyst growth

This list goes on……

So are we in agreement now that if you can’t eat it, it doesn’t belong anywhere near you?!

Good.

Some folks out there, like to still push the limit of what is considered to be Non-Toxic or "Natural", the label of Organic can even be fudged a little, so be very cautious of what ingredients they are using. Don't hesitate to contact the manufacturer for further questions.

So remember- IF YOU CAN’T EAT IT, DON’T BOTHER!
